On Monday our lives changed forever. We we're placed with the tough decision of putting our dog to sleep. She had a disease that caused her calcium and protein levels to bottom out. We'd first discovered this disease late this summer when she had and episode that included diarrhea. We switched up her food and diet and she seemed to be back on track.
But Monday morning we noticed that she was shivering and decided to take her in for a check up. She was diagnosed with a slight fever and given some new food to try since she wasn't enjoying her old one. (A dogs normal temperature is 101 to 102.5). When my mother and brother left the vet they stopped in a grassy parking area to let Mindy out to use the bathroom before the drive home. As my mom set her into the grass she fell face first and would not bare weight on her front legs. My mom and brother hurried her back to the vet where they said that she might have a slipped disk. She was given some steroids to take down the inflammation and was ordered to be on rest instead of playing.
As they left the again she started heavily panting, but it wasn't her normal type of panting. Once again they went back to the vet. She was taken into the back room where they diagnosed her panting that we hadn't seen before as a seizure. Her temperature then was 106.9.
Blood work was done and the grim diagnosis was made, we could take her to the emergency vet where she would be admitted to the ICU and given protein and calcium, but we were not 100% sure how long it would stabilize her. And if it didn't stabilize her for long her next crash would be even worse then the one she had just had.
With everyone coming out to say our good byes and give as many kisses and hugs we laid our sweet baby to rest. At only 6 years old our little angel ran into the arms our Heavenly Father.
Mindy you will be forever loved and missed by all of us and your big sister Morkie.
We love you! Rest in paradise princess <3
