Sunday Snapshot: Car Accident; Good bye Toyota Camry, you were so good to us.

May 18th was just like any other day to me, a Saturday. I was going to go to a friend's graduation party but decided not to and instead attend church with my family while my twin brother went; after all I would see our friend after church at yet another party.....or so i thought.
Church went by quickly because we have no A/C and it was about a million degrees inside. It was 5:46 when the call came. At the moment my dad answered I knew it was trouble, and my heart sank, my twin brother and friend had been in an accident. The tone of voice my father used I've only heard two other times in my life, and i hate using him hear it, it sends chills down your bones.
As we pulled up onto the scene of the accident i felt my heart go to my stomach and my stomach drop to my feet, our car was no where in sight. Obscenities were being whispered under my dad's breath as we rounded the corner. My heart lurched and everyone gasped as we rounded the corner and saw our car nose down in a 100 ft ravine. I thought I was going to be sick. My dad all but jumped out the window of the car as he flew out of it and took off towards the car. We'd been told to stay in the car when we pulled up, but all logic flew out the window as i sat in the car for no longer than a minute after my dad left. Giving my little brother and sister a stern lecture that they were absolutely under no circumstances allowed to leave the car, i told them i would be back, little did i know i would not be back. As i stepped out of the car my instinct was to run, well flip flops plus huge ruts and tall weeds equal an epic fail in my part. As i started running and my dad yelled "WALK!" i took a face plant in the weeds, but that didn't stop me. I kicked off my flip flops not even bothering to think about the glass and metal that was laying around and took off towards the fire engine where my brother sat. How he got there was beyond me.
As I got out of the grass i wasn't allowed near him yet because to many people were crowded around him. I started hyperventilating. I wasn't sure what was going on, and all i wanted was to get to my brother, and that was happening. A bystander asked if he needed to get me a seat and I told him no I was fine but i needed to see my brother. When i got to him he was in hysterics. "I wrecked your car! Oh my god i'm so sorry!" was all he blubbered out along with other things. I tried my best to console him; the car was no matter to me at the moment. It was then i noticed he was shirtless and Tom was no where to be seen. My dad was down at the car along with a bunch of other rescue people..... and the jaws of life. Tom was put on a back board and brought up the hill. I tried to get close to him but was shooed away, he was then put into the ambulance, declared a code 3 trauma and rushed off the ER. After a little more talking my brother was put onto a board and a neck brace also and put into the ambulance. I was asked to ride in the front to go with him.
After the ambulance ride a lot of it is a blur. We waited in the ER waiting room for a few hours, and then my dad came out to take us home and get us dinner and then head back up to the hospital. We stopped by the site of the accident to see if we could take some pictures before it got completely dark. One of the cops on duty came up to us as we were heading back to our car after taking pictures and told us that our boys are so very lucky and incredibly blessed to even be alive from this accident. He doesn't know how they managed to walk away from this with as minimal injury as they did. My brother ended up with a lot of seat belt burns, torn muscles in his leg, bruised ribs, and a fractured collared bone. Tom ended up with a broken nose, a lacerated eyelid which required 60 stitches, a broken orbit, and some torn muscles in his leg also. Both boys are recovering well. I believe it was my Nonnie that saved our boys. It was her old car that they were in, and on the passenger side(which took the point of impact) was a guardian angel pin on the visor, a Auto rosary, a  rosary ring, a Jesus sticker that stuck on the passenger side windshield in the bottom corner, and two rocks in the back that were vel-croed down that read "pray" and "Jesus". Here is a little new's article that was covered on the accident http://www.wowt.com/home/headlines/Sarpy-County-Investigating-Accident-208033121.html
And here are the pictures I took today at the impound.

(The jesus is not torn or anything. But i couldn't get it because it was pinned down by glass)
